SFC Coat of Arms
by RP Tesoro

Rationale:
Historians theorized that the coat of arms helped knights be recognized by their followers and superiors. This, in turn, serves both as a right to lead and a duty to obey and follow. These coats of arms that have been granted them were sewn in to their overcoats, which were worn over their chain mail, thus, the term “coat of arms.” The symbols and colors that were chosen by them or granted to them denotes certain attributes or characteristics that they or their clans and families posses.

Below are the symbolic definitions of the Coat of Arms:

1. Trumpet:

Heraldic meaning: ready for war

SFC translation: for us this signifies courage. Ready to face battle anytime and anywhere, but with the aid of our brothers and sisters. We have chosen this instead of other symbols of war (e.g. sword, spear, etc.) because we believe as a community that there is strength in unity. For us going to battle is not a solitary ordeal, but an encounter faced, side-by-side with brothers and sisters as comrade-in-arms. With this in mind, we have chosen the trumpet to symbolize our “call-to-arms.”

2. Sheperd`s Crook:

Heraldic meaning: Christian faith; pastoral authority; watchfulness

SFC translation: we have chosen this to represent our leadership over our members as well as SFC’s role as a religious organization of young adults spearheading the way for social and spiritual transformation in the world.

3. Helmet:

Heraldic meaning: Heroism

SFC translation: Love for God and Country. This signifies our unwavering loyalty and service for our God and our country even in times of distress and conflicts.

4. Fleur-de-lis:

Heraldic meaning: purity and light

SFC translation: this represents for us our community’s newest pillar: the Pro-Life ministry. Legend has it that King Clovis, one of the Merovingian Kings of the Franks, received a golden lily from an angel as a symbol of his purification upon his conversion to Christianity. We would like to likewise imbibe a life that 100% pure.

5. Amulet:

Heraldic meaning: Fidelity

SFC translation: here we see the annulet or the ring as a symbol for our vocations. May it be the married life, religious life or single blessedness; we are all called to be faithful. Faithful to our future spouses, our vows but most especially our God.

6. Anchor:

Heraldic meaning: hope, religious steadfastness

SFC translation: we are reminded that we are a people of God. That with Him in our lives we don’t uselessly drift but are kept in His presence. We are called to be “anchored” on our Lord, and then we can truly be “Pro-God.”

7. SFC Logo:
"Our Identity"

8. Gold (Or):

Heraldic meaning: Generosity and elevation of the mind

SFC translation: as a people of God we are called to have “less for self, more for others and enough for all.” This color symbolizes our call to be Pro-Poor.

9. Red (Gules):

Heraldic meaning: warrior or martyr

SFC meaning: as SFC’s we are called to be martyrs. We are reminded here of the blood spilt for our sakes during Christ’s sufferings. At the same time challenged to disregard our own welfare but live up to the will of the Father.

10. Blue (Azure):

Heraldic meaning: Truth and loyalty

SFC Translation: this color is derived from our original color as a Family Ministry of Couples for Christ.

11. Maroon (Sanguine):

Heraldic meaning: patient in battle and yet victorious

SFC Translation: as warriors of God we are to be patient, one who does not rest until the battle is won. We are already victorious in God; all we have to do is to claim it.
